This is a strategy that works with online poker rooms that have 9 people per table, using a single table tournament, which most Online Poker Sites have. You want to stay away from tables with less than 9 people because you subject yourself to cheating tactics, where the cheaters either have a group of friends playing at the table telling each other their hands via phone or chatting or it could be one cheater with 4 computers and four different accounts using an IP Blocker. Either way, this is a variable you want to avoid. Playing with 10 people tables you also want to avoid because there are only 3 spots that pay money. If you play with 9 people you have a 33% chance of getting into the money. With 10 players you have a 30% chance. This may not seem like a big difference but it is.

This strategy works on $5 and $10 Sit N Go tables. If you play higher stakes tables you will be playing against experienced players that are just a patient as you and make good decisions more often. Lower stakes tables will not pay you enough to make it worth your time.

The heart of this Sit N Go Poker Strategy is patience and waiting for other players at the table to knock themselves out of the game. You want to end up in any of the money spots, which are first through third place. Usually first place pays 50% of the prize money. Second pays 30% and third pays 20%. With this strategy you will end up in second or third place much more than first place, but will stay out of fourth through ninth place more often. You should finish first through third approximately 75% of the time using this strategy. Each game usually takes about 1 hour to complete.

The Plan

Early in the tournament, which we will define as the first four betting levels, play very few hands. Only play Level 1 starting hands, which are AA, KK, QQ or AK and be aggressive pre-flop by betting 4 times the big blind. You hope to induce all players to fold, taking in a risk-free pot or to at least greatly minimizing the amount of players you will be going flop against. Remember, strong hands play best against few players.

Level 2 starting hands (JJ to AQ) you want to see the flop for as little as possible so play these if you can limp in with the blind amount. Be very risk-adverse during the beginning 4 levels of the tournament. When in doubt, fold. Remember, you want to slide into one of the three paying positions.

Only use Level 3 (small pocket pairs and suited connectors) starting hands early in the tournament if you have a big chip lead and can limp in to see the flop.

As the game progresses, you will usually find yourself on the bottom of the chip count. This is okay as long as the blinds are not eating you up. At low level ($10 or less) Sit N Go tournaments you are playing with many inexperienced players and they will drop like flies, so hang in there!

Final Four

When you make it to the final four at the table, strategy changes and you will often see the table become very tight unless the blinds are huge. There is nothing worse than finishing 1 place away from the money so things tighten up considerably. If you have a good chip count (top 2) then only play level 1 and 2 hands and be very aggressive. Others are tight and you do not want to see a flop and be beat with an AK while you are holding KQ. If you are low stack you are going to have to try and steal blinds when you are not in them. Otherwise the other players will just bide their time until you get eaten up by the blinds. If this is the case then you need to throw all-in whenever you get an Ace.

When you push in your short stack of chips than either everyone folds and you collect the blinds and antes or someone with a mediocre hand may call you for the opportunity to eliminate 4^th place and get into the money. Usually it is the chip leader that calls you with hands as bad as 8-9 off-suit because it is a small percentage of their stack and if they lose they are still chip leader. In this case you will find an Ace in your hand gets you through more times than not. This is a nice way to double up!

Final Three- Money Baby!

When you get to the final three, you are now in the money and you can stop playing this tight system and let loose! Be aggressive and put pressure on the other two players to make a decision. Many times they will fold and the blinds and antes that you take can add up quickly.

Although first place pays a lot more than the others, you need to be happy with being in the money. That is the mentality you have to have to make this system work for you. Many players get first place a lot but get out of the top three much more than you will. Long-term the patient, economical, systematic approach wins out!

Do the math after 10 Sit N Go tournaments and you should find yourself making between $12-$15 an hour. Not bad for playing a game!
